Welcome to WordSeed
WordSeed is a daily word game where the goal is simple: grow the longest possible word from a single starting letter – the WordSeed.
You add one letter at a time to your word, but you only get up to 4 random letters to choose from.
But there's a catch: not all words are possible so you might have to change your strategy mid-game.
Everyone gets the same game each day: the same seed letter and the same letter choices. So it's a great game to compete with friends.
Playing is Easy
- The WordSeed starting letter will appear in the middle of the screen
- Under it will be up to 4 letters to choose from
- Think of the longest word you can that starts with the WordSeed and one of the 4 options as the second letter
- Choose the second letter for your word, then your third, and fourth, and so on
- The game ends when you complete your word
Tips
- The longest remaining word is shown as you make each choice
- If you take a bad turn you can use the Undo button, but this will reduce your score by 1
- Share your daily scores with friends and see who can grow the longest word
- You'll discover many new words, so you can click to search for a definition of your word
- You can see a list of all the words for each game, to see the ones you missed
- Your stats are available via the 📊 button
- Tap/click PLAY MORE to keep playing as you like - but there's only one Daily game per day
- Come back tomorrow, play again and build your streak
The Challenge
Your preferred letters may not show up when you need them! This is what makes WordSeed challenging. You might have a specific word in mind, but if your letters don't appear, you'll need to pivot to a different target word. Similarly, you might be set on one word, but a letter drops that gives you an even better word. It's all about being nimble with the letters that you are dealt.
Longest Word Counter
Under the letter choices you'll find a small bar graph which shows the length of the longest word you can create from your selections so far. The longest possible word is 15 letters which coincides with the longest possible word on a Scrabble® board.
- It updates as you make each selection: the further it drops, the shorter your final word can be
- Your aim is to get through the game without the bar dropping
- If it drops too far too far on one of your letter choices, you can use undo. Undo will lose you a point, but you still might get a better score than if you stick with a bad choice
Possible Words Counter
- This shows how many valid words exist from your current position
- It updates with each letter selection and shows as your options narrow
Undos
- If you're not happy with your letter choice, you can tap/click undo to remove it
- Each undo reduces your final score by 1 point
- Undos are limited to 2 per game – use them wisely!
- Undo will disappear when you've run out
Game End
The game is over when you complete your word and there are no more letters to choose from.
Sometimes you might complete your word and there are still letters to choose – this can happen for plurals and other common word endings link 'ing', 'ness', 'ly'; keep choosing wisely as these letters might be the ones to take you to a perfect score!
When the game is over, you'll see:
- The completed word with your score
- A Share button so you can compete with friends
- A link to look up the definition for your word in your browser
- A link to view all possible words for the game – your word is in highlighted in green
- You can also copy your final word by tapping/clicking on it
Your Score
- Your score is the length of your completed word
- But you lose a point every time you use undo
- A perfect score is when you find one of the longest words for the day, without using undo
Sharing Your Results
Click the Share button to copy your results to share on social media. On mobile devices, the Share button will show the available apps on your phone to share to. The shared text will show the date, the language (flag), your score and a bar graph so you can easily compare your scores with friends.
Your shared results won't show your final word, so your friends can't benefit from your great score. The backward arrows indicate where you use Undo.

Multilingual Support
WordSeed can be played in several languages. Switch languages anytime using the flag button in the top-left corner. Your progress in each language is saved independently so you can play one or more each day.
Each language:
- Has its own dictionary and daily games
- Tracks separate statistics
- Preserves proper diacritical marks (accents, tildes, etc.) although they only appear in the completed word
Tips & Strategy
- Plan ahead: think of your preferred longest word but be ready to abandon it if your next letter doesn't come up
- Remember, even better words may be lurking so if you see a better letter, go for it
- Common patterns – Think of words that end in common letter combinations - like "...NESS", "...ING", "...TIONS"
- Watch the counters: The "Longest Word" counter tells you the longest word's length from your current position
- Use undo when the longest word counter drops significantly: Each undo costs a point, so only use them when truly stuck
- Perfect scores are rare: Don't stress if you don't get the maximum word. Any completion is a success, and there's always tomorrow
